What is the best way to clean a wool carpet hand-designed?

My living room carpet is 100% wool and should only be hand stained. He sits on a rug pad sheds like crazy and has been in force for two years. I keep it emptied and cleaned in situ, as necessary, but I would really refresh. Any suggestions and what products should I use?
