Why does my cat always pee on the bathroom rug?
I’ve read that she might be doing this because she is not fixed. The only problem is that I currently lost my job and cant afford to get her fixed. Does anyone know of any cheap or free places in the RI/MA area that I can take her to get her fixed and try and stop this problem?
Depending on how old your cat is, fixing her most likely will not resolve the issue of her peeing on the rug. Once a cat reaches the 6 mo-1year mark their secondary sex characteristics are fully developed and spaying her will not override the instincts. She will not go into season anymore but will still mark.
She should still be fixed and most animal shelters/ humane societies will perform this for little out of pocket expense (some for free).
As for the peeing, cat urine is almost impossible to get completely out of fabric. That rug now smells just like her and she will think that it is her area to go to the bathroom.
Your best option is to simply throw out that rug. Leave the floor bare for a little while until she is regularly using her box again, and then get a new rug.
