I do not know the exact answer, but I'm guessing it probably has to do with the products chemicals and materials used to make a Sharpie. It is not even supposed to be applied to the skin and eyes are very sensitive, so I think so. The material used for do that is not secure. Hope that helps, you may already have thought about that answer though.
