Happy New Year to you too!. We use the Rug Doctor (different versions) for upholstery and carpets. I've never had a problem. A good Rug Doctor would have to return twice to fill a large room and requires only once for a small room. Just be careful and move everything that you think is out electricity or wood form. Do not want to download or get yourself its timber damaged in any way. Oh and if you are allergic to eggs then not always get the flu shot because they contain eggs. It's in their labels warning or at least should be! 
Usually, you can rent one at a grocery store and the attachment is extra. Then there is the cost of cleaning liquid. Be careful to read the instructions carefully.
