Deforestation Dilemma
In the 19th century, British forces made their advance towards the border areas of Afghanistan. These negotiations are part of the northern border of West Pakistan Province (NWFP) areas called Pakhtoonkhwa. The royal army is facing a serious resistance, especially in the main road known as the Pak-Afghan highway. The tribe uses the forest on hills in the area Landi Kotal coverage. For several years, British forces strike force has remained ineffective local untrained.
To solve the problem, the British government of India has decided to inspect the area and to a method for a lasting solution and future progress towards the rule of Afghanistan. The government of India refers to the critical financial situation of the area and poor tribes. Therefore, it was decided to increase lumber prices in the local market of Peshawar.
The rising prices have attracted local residents and soon start selling the wood. They used donkeys to transport the timber along nearly 50 miles. The strategy worked very effectively as local residents had found a good source of income. Some of these suppliers had purchased land for timber in populated areas and the tribes of Afridi and Shinwari famous lived in this country in its third generation.
Cut wood and make Peshawar at the time of sale and soon built on the surrounding mountains were deforested. Soon the effects of deforestation have been witnesses: Sabir Afridi, 65, a senior at Landi Kotal not remember Forest in the mountains of his native region, citing its tribal ancestors, but admits that there are trees there.
Almost all the mountains near the Khyber Agency Tirah valley that are still covered by forests. Even smaller cities like Zayaray trees. Only the mountains near the Pakistan-Afghan road that stripped foliage, which means that the story told by members of the tribe was true.
The question is why the government of British India to mention this issue in their work plans regularly in almost all areas? It is a very simple answer: who is deliberately avoided.
According to Muhammad Ashraf, an officer of the Forest Institute Peshawar, there is no doubt that all the mountains are naturally suited to the forestry. This confirms the view that the mountains of the Landi Kotal area was forest.
Interestingly, almost all the research literature and history, writing to that point, we're talking about this issue. We test different types of plants and trees grown in the region, but has not acted on their Destruction. (The Library of the Institute of Forestry, University of Peshawar has been searched thoroughly, but found nothing.)
It is regrettable that the authorities of the British Empire may have deliberately ignored this fact since he had left behind him a crowd research papers and work plans of forests in almost all areas in which ruled in
Even after more than 60 years of independence, The Pakistani government has neglected the region and has not made a plan for the growth of trees over the particular area. Most members of local tribes would like to see the resurgence of forestry in the mountains of Landi Kotal Tehsil with Afghanistan and Pakistan Road, for those without resources. Rokha Afridi, a young man like other men of the tribes of the region, is enthusiastic about the restoration of afforestation your area.
A proper study of experts in the relevant field identifying the type of planting possible or easy to grow in this area. This could lead to one of the most beautiful in the world supported by a rich history with him.
