I want to paint on some funds Desktop ugly in my sunroom and decided that was probably the main target. The wallpaper is still light, but so is my color I chose to paint. SO: be on the safe side I'll paint the walls white first. I found a can of Interior alkyd enamel (semi-gloss finish) white paint. "I can paint this in first, then go with my new can of (color) Interior acrylic latex (eggshell finish)?? I'm not looking to enter any competitions decoration, so you do not have to be beautiful! Hello. No, you can not use alkyd enamel as a primer. It is an oil painting and you can not paint over latex. The painting got off the ground. Prime is not expensive and if you go to a local hardware store to explain to them what you want paint and that will give you the best for your project. You can use oil over latex but not vice versa. You could also just put 2 or 3 layers of paint it has on the wallpaper. If you ever plan on taking the wallpaper I recommend you do before painting, because it will never get it later. Good luck
