A look at the weaving in the 19th and 20th centuries

Caucasus tissue past 180 years is a complicated issue. There is an extraordinary multiplicity influences in the region, culture, ethnography, politics, religion, geography and climate have influenced all carpet loom region. In recent years, the quality of the study has caused a lot of carpet weaving in this area and there is now a body of well-organized award.
In general, designs and colors of carpet Caucasus are not sufficient in itself to determine the origin with absolute certainty. There are, Of course, some well-documented designs have been attributed to its origin, but only a small part of the spectrum unusually broad patterns found in the tissues of the Caucasus. The only important factor to determine the regions where they come from specific carpet is the type of wool used and the life of the battery. thick Wool Carpets are good insulators and sheep breeding in the mountainous regions heavier shaggier and have already built a race in the lowlands. The carpets woven in the mountain villages have richer, longer and heavier the battery, and its colors tend to be warmer. Thus, areas that produce long-piled rugs are Kazak, Gendje, Lezgian, and several varieties of batteries Karabakh Business are Talish, Lenkoran tissues and Dagestan, and the battery rather low in Shirvan, Baku, Kuba and carpets.
Regarding the proliferation of designs, there are about 350 different tribes in the region, speaking about 150 dialects. The south-west, the zone of Armenia and Kazakhstan was inhabited by Christians Armenians in the south-east of the Mongols and the Tatars by the Persians in the north, the main tribes are the Shirvan, Dagestan, Chechens and Lesguis, and noise Circassians Northwest (Circassians).

There are, of course, cultural and ethnic overlap in all these areas. To give an idea of the difficulty to attribute the design people in specific places, the Russian scientist S. Zerminov, in his study of Azerbaijan Carpets, gave the names of 123 villages in southern and mid-Caucacus producing distinctive design carpets. For all Caucacus, would probably multiply that number by a factor of at least four. Many reasons Skeletal tissues in animals of the Caucasus for centuries, and are probably of Scythian.

For convenience, it is possible to divide the Caucacus weaving in ten areas: Kazak, Karabagh, Gendje, Talish, Mugan, Shirvan, Baku, Kuba, Daghestan and Derbent. It should be noted, however, that the generic name Kazak is often applied to a wide range of carpets from the Caucasus, which have not necessarily been woven in the Kazak district.

carpets are Chelaberd often referred to as Eagle Kazaks. Although the design of these rugs have an affinity with Kazak rugs, structurally, is undoubtedly Karabakh. Companies son using heavy in both areas creates a superficial similarity of weaving patterns of both types. The products in this area has one of the few tissues in Caucasus distinctive, consisting of two weft son after all other rows of knots. The Kazakhs, on the other hand, everyone seems to have a number irregular frames, two to four years, after each row of knots.

Carpet Chelaberd were made in the Caucasus to south-east, in the northern Persia. The Caucasus mountain chain stretching from the Caspian to the Black Sea in the region of present-day Azerbaijan and southern Russia, and in the villages of these mountains that some of the most original collection of rugs.

Most rugs and carpets collection in this area are tissues from 1800 1900. The nineteenth century is the last farewell of the village and nomadic carpets. In the twentieth century, no longer used natural colors, designs and fabrics were much less attractive. Chelaberd carpets were mainly made in traditional formats such as 4 'x 6' and 5 'x 7' … the corridors of this size have been woven in this city rarely tribal. Therefore, brokers are very desirable and highly sought Chelaberd by collectors.

The best village rugs from the Caucasus in the nineteenth century shows the inventiveness of home weavers who created the stylized versions design elements and traditional uses local materials to their best advantage. Meanwhile, the use of natural dyes has been an art still practiced, resulting in bright colors. design patterns such as medallions sunlight, dragons, and the vaults of the temple shows in many of those best carpet.

The origin of the name "Eagle Kazak" has several explanations. The medallion design in the center of carpet is known as an eagle design. There is some similarity between the medallions of Russia and the eagle with two heads. The other (less acceptable) theory comes from the definition of Chelaberd yes. Some say that Chelaberd means eagle in the local dialect, a mixture of Armenian, Russian and Arabic.
