Caucasian Mountain Dog: With uncanny resemblance to the bear
The Caucasian Mountain Dog also known as the Caucasian Ovtcharka is an ancient breed which for centuries was little known outside the remote regions of this entry, namely the Caucasus which incorporate: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Iran and Turkey. The Caucasian Mountain Dog or Ovtcharka (Russian Ovtcharka means shepherd or pastor) is a member of the Working the dog breed and despite its name shepherd dog / dog that has never been pastor of Shepherd, but a guardian or protector that goes a long way in explaining no its not inconsiderable size! The Caucasian Mountain Dog was created to protect livestock against wolves, bears and other predators, in fact, the Caucasian Ovtcharka is a strange resemblance to a bear!
Until recently considered by many to be a descendant of the Tibetan Mastiff, unearthed archaeological evidence suggests that their ancestors came from ancient dogs that lived in the wooded hills of Iraq and Mesopotamia. It is believed that the diversity of types of dogs that accompanied the nomadic tribes who settled in the Caucasus regions, with little intervention and interference external influences, became the white mountain dog.
Until early 1930, the Caucasian Ovtcharka was little known outside its host until it begins to appear in European dog shows in Germany. Around 1952, the Caucasian Mountain dog has been subdivided into two distinct races: the Transcaucasian Ovtcharka bones become heavier, a huge dog that comes from mountainous regions and the European Ovtcharka, type less bulky that originated in the steppes.
In 1976, the two sub-breeds have been regrouped and reclassified as a race, and these days the Caucasus Mountain Dog should conform to a single standard. Anyway, however, the various sub-breeds can still be differentiated by the different regions territories of the former Soviet Union and now one of the most popular type is called Mountain Dog Caucasian sub-race of Georgia that characterized by thick, heavy boned, massive dog that most resembles a bear.
The potential of the Caucasian Mountain dog as a herd Guardian Dog (LGD) was quickly realized by the former Soviet army, and soon this breed of dog was used in times of peace and the time of war and military auxiliary "staff" in the range of the Soviet Union. In late 1960, the Caucasian Ovcharka widely introduced in Eastern Germany especially for the service of the Border Patrol, both to patrol most of the infamous Berlin Wall. When the Berlin Wall, the overthrow in 1989, by then, at least 7,000 units of the white mountain dogs used to patrol the perimeter of the wall has been dissolved and most of the dogs found new households in the civilian population newly liberated!
Temperament
This dog breed has been developed for protect livestock and livestock and therefore a strong protective custody inherent trait /. As much as a family dog Border Collies tend to herd his family as a flock of sheep replacing the Caucasus Mountain Dog tends to be somewhat protective of his immediate family, a function that has obvious advantages, but less obvious consequences. The Caucasian Ovcharka is a strong character (some would say stubborn) breed of dog that requires a firmer hand for socialization and training. The stubborn nature of this type called the dog is not surprising when one considers that he has been selected for hundreds of years for these exact qualities.
This dog was bred to be largely independent of the population (apart from your pastor) and grew to coexist with livestock, so that took care of the Caucasus mountain breed of dog is inherently wary of strangers they are people or animals. As expected, Caucasian Ovtcharka is most active at night (cattle predators tend to hunt in the darkness of the night) and even if she can give the impression that this is a big lazy dog dozing at the slightest suspicion of Caucasian Mountain dog intruder quickly come to their feet, sound the alarm (barking) and go immediately face the threat!
The Caucasian Ovcharka takes the protection of its territory (in these days feel the patio of the family) very seriously and review all intrusion of a stranger as a threat. Despite its formidable size the dog is characterized by the use of minimum force to prevent any threat. Such a force can have any chance to respond to a predator and barking and growling aggressive is usually sufficient to change the minds of most foreigners, as well as their wild canine, dog breed still retains the old mentality and physical (or deadly) force should be a last resort because it tends to be cons-productive (eg, injury to one of parts).
Any good for children?
As this breed of dog tends to replace the immediate family of the breeding selectively to protect, that is, this dog is very protective of their family members. Therefore, it is important to understand that this dog could feel ugly Thurs between a rough boy or family member and a friend (as is the trend with children) as a threat and protect the genetic wiring "the flock "to start immediately!
So is vitally important for good socialization of this breed of dog and also explain to their children that they know that "Shaggy" never hurt them, they must understand that it can not go to his friends unless they know the dog (eg, accepted as an extension of his flock). Obviously with a dog of this size all the activity around young children should be monitored, and that although the family pet does not intend to harm, is a large dog in the heat of the game is easy to forget the tremendous power and size, and may accidentally hurt a small baby!
The question of the apartment housing?
Overall the Caucasian Mountain Dog is not the ideal inhabitant of the house. Although most large dogs that their energy level is somewhat low for this breed of dog is itself the night and grew to alert and warn and intruders. In other words, his love for the Caucasus mountain dog, and could result in hatred of their neighbors because their Caucasian Ovcharka has made them crazy with their night's cacophony (Ec … this is especially true if your neighbors are creatures of the animal also known as part of the night).
Interactivity with other dogs
From a genetic point of view of mountain dog White has never been bred to be too friendly with other dogs are canids and wolves, because, as a flock guardian would be expected protect against all potential predators, of course, would have included stray dogs. However, like most any breed of dog socialization and timely usually overcome any hostility towards other dogs or animals of this breed!
Mountain Dog Breed Standard Caucasus
In Currently, it seems contradictory norms of race that could be partly explained by the different sub-strains and late acceptance of this breed in the AKC, from now on this breed of dog has a range AKC. AKC only recently moved to officially recognize the breed of dog (on May 2007), although the Caucasian Ovcharka has been registered with the FSS (Foundation Stock Services) since 1996.
