Best vacuum for pet owners w / carpet?

We really need to know how empty it would be better for us. We just thinking about taking the plunge and buy a Dyson, but they are so expensive, it would be nice to know if you do what is needed. Recently we moved to our new home, and unfortunately, it has light cream colored carpet. Not bad, but we have all four pets that shed like crazy. In addition, our backyard is one big pile orange ground … well .. it rains a lot: Our ultimate aim broke upon us in less than two weeks to have it. That was about $ 160 drain. So any opinion on what would be fantastic.
