Consumer's Guide to hiring a carpet cleaner
Consumer's Guide to the carpet CLEANING
My name is Joel Belmont. I am grateful for the opportunity to provide information on carpet cleaning and help you choose a carpet cleaning company.
As owner of Belmont Carpet Cleaning & Upholstery Care, I spent over 10 years of cleaning textiles Roaring Fork Valley. I attended many schools, workshops and seminars to keep abreast of changes in carpets and fabrics. I am certified by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification). So I spent over a year in training with my father, Charles Belmont, founder and president Cleaners Association certified. I am the only carpet cleaner with a score of five stars in www.EthicalServices.com (a supervisory body presented nationally on ABC, 20/20) in Aspen, Snowmass Village, Woody Creek, Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs, CO
During my household, I learned that carpet cleaning is the subject of much confusion. In fact, people have many misconceptions about carpet cleaning has decided to offer this consumer education message, so that choosing a carpet cleaning company can make an informed choice, intelligent decision.
I'll share with you seven misconceptions about carpet cleaning price. In addition, I propose four recommendations. And I will to 8 questions you should ask a carpet cleaner before inviting home.
Misconception No. 1: You must wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.
NO! Dirt is an abrasive – abrasive paper etc.. Every time you walk on the carpet, dirt the soil in your carpet fibers. This reduces your carpet, as if you had used a knife, causing more rapid wear. A dirty carpet will not last nearly as long as a carpet. And while vacuuming helps – by itself not enough. The longer you wait to have your carpets cleaned, the more damage makes your carpet and the faster it wears out.
Misconception No. 2: The only reason to clean carpets is to remove the soil and improve appearance.
Not true! As you probably know, outdoor air contains pollens, molds, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, exhaust – and hundreds of other harmful chemicals. When you and your family into your house, carry the pollen and chemicals in your hair and skin, clothing and shoes. Unsurprisingly, all chemicals, pollens and bacteria end up – you guessed it – in your carpet.
Carpet cleaning is not just about removing the soil and improve the appearance of your home. For protect your family and protect their health by removing pollutants and contaminants that can affect their quality of life. In some cases, air quality procedure may be 70-100 times more polluted than outdoor air. Since carpet is the highest and lowest horizontal surface, acts as a "sink" or filters, which must be emptied and cleaned regularly.
Another factor to consider is that the fiber mat is made to conceal and camouflage dirt and debris. Thus, when we see the traces of dirt from your carpet is already overdue for a cleaning. Of course, some colors do a better job of hiding soil than others. For example, the colors of earth tones (brown) do a magnificent job of hiding the ground, so can not depend on the condition basis for deciding when it is time to clean your carpet.
Misconception No. 3: A METHOD FOR CLEANING A carpet is as good as other!
No. In fact different carpet cleaning companies use very different systems, and many of them can cause the soil to reappear soon after they were cleaned, and can permanently damage your carpet and furniture!
Following methods the most common:
The first uses a water-based foam is applied to dry on the carpet, dried, then all simply empty. Can you imagine applying shampoo hair, dry and remove the shampoo from your head with a vacuum cleaner? This method can let a huge amount of soap residue on your carpet, and do not provide sufficient agitation to clean and lift carpet fibers, making it a way Non-cash to clean.
The second method uses sparkling water to try to float the dirt to the surface. Carpet need to be cleaned thoroughly with an effective cleaner and a complete system, and effervescent bubbles simply do not provide deep cleaning.
Thirdly, the dry method, comprising an absorbent mixture resembling wet sawdust covers all your carpets. Then a machine brushes the mixture into the carpet, which, in theory, makes the dirt to absorb into the mixture. When the mixture has dried, a vacuum cleaner sucks the material of the carpet. In a cut pile or Berber carpet, it is impossible to pick up anything, leaving the two compounds and cleaning of soil in the carpet.
The fourth method is called steam cleaning. This is a fast, one-step, where the temperature of boiling water, laden with soap, is injected into the mat at 400 pounds of pressure per square inch. It carries water and soap in the carpet, often through the pad and the basement. It may take days, literally, dry wet carpet, which can cause mold problems. In addition, the temperature extremely hot water may soften the glue on the back of the carpet, which distort the fibers permanently, and the combination of moisture and temperature can reduce the carpet on the walls, or stretch, leaving wrinkles and cause permanent damage. Pre-aspiration is often neglected, is not a sufficient guarantee of agitation, and soap residue left on the fibers attract stains and traffic lanes back to the place where they were before! In a few weeks, it may seem your carpet has never been clean, and eventually can ruin your carpet.
In short, the reason none of these methods are ineffective, because of four important elements that lack a proper cleaning (1) leave a residue attract soil, (2) no draft, (3) using too much or too little moisture, and (4) does not undermine the carpet fibers enough to clean and restore a healthy group.
The five stages last method is a method little moisture.
First, the carpet is pre-exhaust filter with a 3HP commercial lifts and battery. Scientific studies show that 70-75% of all earth, debris and allergens in the carpet can be removed with a professional cleaner, which makes this an essential step for cleaning depth.
Then a healthier environment that does not contain soap, bleach or caustic leaving no harmful residue to attract soil is applied more flexibly carpet fibers, allowing it to enter the base of the carpet. The cleaner is 100% safe for you, your carpets and the environment, and because it leaves no residue, the cleaning will last 3-4 times longer!
Third, a rotary floor machine with a nylon brush (or a soft brush for wool and other delicate carpet fibers) is used to clean all four sides of carpet fibers. This breaks up stubborn stains, soil liquefies or any other bacteria, and lift the carpet carve a backup of its original state.
Once the soil liquefied nightcaps special are used in the machine ground to fully absorb and remove liquefied soil, leaving carpet fibers clean, healthy and beautiful.
Last step is to prepare the carpet by hand with great lift brush, leaving all the fibers raised in a single direction. This helps the carpet dry in a few hours and leaves the carpet like new.
Without a doubt, the most effective way to clean carpets is one of five stages, low humidity, no waste system. This method of cleaning the most effective market and the only method that is eliminates dust, bacteria harmful fungi, chemicals, pollen and other debris, while restoring the carpet fibers in its original condition. It is method my company uses.
Myth No. 4: All methods CLEANING CARPETS ARE good for the environment.
Unfortunately, no. There are three important factors that make a system environment: one, the computer must be powered by energy own two, the cleaning solution must be certified as non toxic and safe for the environment, and three, a carpet cleaner should be the wastewater properly.
(1) carpet cleaning likely to use machines that are energy oil, gasoline use Unleaded or diesel fuel to operate their computers. This means that not only your neighborhood polluted by exhaust fumes from his truck and equipment, ie for the duration of one hour either cleaning or any day, but it also adds greenhouse gases in the atmosphere useless, increasing effects of global warming.
other cleaning equipment used carpet that is so powerful, but run on electricity, which is energy efficient and cleaner. So make sure the company hired to use clean energy for electricity to operate their equipment.
(2) Many carpet cleaners chemicals are not biodegradable and are harmful to people and local watersheds. A cleaning solution that is certified Green Seal is a good rule to use for a chemical environment.
(3) It is a pity, but some companies do not have their sewage properly. Carpet cleaning, I have repeatedly seen the best pump wastewater in the street, which runs through the storm drains and local right on the river without treatment. This can cause big problems in our local rivers, and there were many times carpet cleaning companies have been prosecuted for improper disposal of wastewater, which causes the death of fish and damage the local environment. A carpet cleaner ethical dispose of sewage properly.
These three factors are an important our quality of modern life, and for future generations, and is a high level to which we are engaged. We are one of the carpet business cleaning in the valley of Roaring Holder who meets these three criteria.
Misconception # 5: Having the right equipment is a company needs to clean all your carpets properly.
This is not true. Many companies hire employees who do not know how to properly use the equipment for cleaning carpets. This may result in inadequate cleaning and even damage the carpet and furniture home. Many carpet cleaners are prosecuted each year because of poor cleaning which resulted in damage. This is another reason it is important to choose your carpet cleaner carefully.
The best carpet cleaning companies are those that have been certified by the Institute of Inspection, cleaning and RESTORATION CERTIFICATION, known as the IICRC. A carpet cleaning company can not buy this certification. The cleaner must obtain certification by the study, experience and success of official writing. The technicians who are certified by the IICRC, in fact, graduated from the carpet and textile cleaning and training is a necessity to maintain their certification.
The IICRC provides written proof that companies it certifies. Therefore, before choosing a reputable company, ask to see written proof of IICRC certified firm.
Misconception No. 6: the company offering the lowest price is the company you hire.
No, we have seen many problems arise in the smaller supply companies that I suggest you NEVER hire a company that quotes the lowest price. The three problems The most common are:
(1): The price you see may not be offered for the services you want performed. Before selecting a company, decide what you want to achieve. If you want the technician to remove some dirt, you can choose from hundreds of companies offering low prices, poor equipment and limited knowledge.
On the other hand, if you want your carpet thoroughly cleaned – if you want to remove harmful dirt, bacteria, pollen and chemicals – then you need to hire a company that uses a background of five steps. This is the only way to ensure that your carpet remains healthy and free from dirt, bacteria, pathogens and harmful chemicals.
Then Remember, the price you see may not be offered for the services they wish to practice.
(2): A low cost of cleaning can not last a few weeks, leaving harmful chemicals on the carpet.
Most of the cleaners in the carpet cleaning industry (especially those who do not load well) clean with soap and detergent-based cleanser, leaving a sticky residue on the carpet. The residual soil attracts like a magnet, and soon seems worse than before cleaning! It's a big deal for them, because you have to hire to clean more often, but it is not good for you or your carpet. It is a vicious circle there is no alternative but to resort to a system that can break residue, or replace the carpet. And because the carpet is the most expensive replaceable at home, you could save a few cents per square foot, with a process Cleaning cheaper but could cost you thousands of dollars in the long term.
(3): The price you see advertising may not be the price you pay!
Many homeowners have learned that the low price that was announced was not the amount you were charged.
Bait and Switch is the term used to identify the use of false advertising, just to put one foot in the door. You probably know someone who has learned the hard way. Some offer a carpet cleaner cheap price – usually between $ 3.95 and $ 9.95 per room – then the pressure to pay more expensive. This amounts to breaking the law.
As in all trades and professions, the carpet cleaning industry has its share of bad apples. I hate say this, but some are unethical and, sadly, some are dishonest. Because of his confusion and false promises, which cast a shadow on our entire industry.
Some other carpet cleaning products, professionals like me who work hard to earn your trust and respect, and offer the most value.
As a way to improve our profession, I devoted my business to educate the public. The only way you can make an intelligent decision is to have all the facts you need. That's why I wrote this message.
Misconception # 7: Any HONEST CARPET cleaning company should be able to give an exact price over the phone.
First, honest, reputable carpet cleaning companies usually price carpet cleaning by the square foot. Therefore, if you want to show the cost correct cleaning your carpet, I need to know the exact number of square feet cleaned. For accuracy, I personally do exact measurements the carpeted area.
You'll be glad to know that the area to clean the carpet is not as great as most people think. For example, if you want your own house and all his house is 2000 square meters, the amount of carpet cleaning can be only 1200 square meters. This is because Most measures are measures abroad. In addition, I can guess the area occupied by walls, partitions, etc. The result is that the actual area to be cleaned Overall, only 60% of the square footage of the house.
So, even if they can not give an exact price over the phone, Here are things to consider when a quote.
First, the type of carpet. Certain types of carpet are harder to clean than others. Therefore, before making an appointment, I need to know the type of fiber your carpet is made and the specific style.
Second, the amount of dirt. Carpet that has not been cleaned for 10 years will take longer to clean that carpets are cleaned during the last six months. When the carpet has been neglected for a long time (perhaps more than two years), our approach changing jobs a regular cleaning service for a restoration more aggressive cleaning.
Third, the amount of moving furniture. If we have to move furniture, we take more time to clean an empty room.
In summary, I believe that the type carpet, the soil level, maintenance history, and the amount of furniture to move. So, as now, you can imagine, all quotations are different.
If you think about having your carpets clean, I offer these four recommendations:
Recommendation # 1: Make a commitment to you to get your carpets cleaned. The longer they remain dirty, the sooner they will. Besides more time you have to breathe all the pollens, fungi, chemicals, manure and mites are in your carpet.
RECOMMENDATION No. 2: List your objectives. You want the dirt removed? Or do you want bacteria, fungus and chemicals removed, which will require a process rigorous 5-step, how to use it? Want to work with an honest, reputable – or is willing to work with Business Risk offering lower prices – knowing that your carpet cleaning and upholstery can be misused and damaged permanently?
RECOMMENDATION 3: Ask questions. The way to learn about a company is to ask specific questions and listen carefully responses. Here are the questions I suggest you ask the question:
1. What kind of equipment do you use to clean the carpet?
2. What your team REMOVE my carpet?
3. Do you use soap or detergent detergent, cleaning agents and their ecological Seal Certified?
4. YOUR TEAM DOES run on electricity or oil, and how to dispose of wastewater?
5. What training have you had in cleaning carpets?
6. Are you a member OF ETHICALSERVICES.COM?
7. Are you a member of professional organizations and if so, how?
8. Is certified by the IICRC Y TE show me your certificate?
9. Do you guarantee all the work?
Recommendation No. 4: Once you're convinced that you work with an honest, competent professional, invite them home and request a quote specific writing. A quote writing gives you the assurance that you know exactly what your job will cost. No surprise!
By following these four recommendations, obtain all information you need to make an informed and intelligent decision.
